CEDAR CREST

Southampton, New York

Architecture by James Merrell Architects • Photography by Marco Ricca • Interiors by Brady Design

Perched above Peconic Bay in Southampton, Cedar Crest is a study in simplicity, natural beauty, and the relationship between architecture and landscape. The clients envisioned a distinctly modern home with a mid-century sensibility and worked with architect James Merrell to realize that vision. The landscape, designed by LaGuardia Design Group, further anchors the house to its setting, preserving and incorporating the property's mature cedar trees.

We were brought in to create the interiors and exterior furnishings, working within the clean lines and understated architecture of the house. Rather than competing with the architecture or the extraordinary landscape beyond it, we embraced its simplicity, introducing color, texture, and warmth to create interiors that feel refined but relaxed.

Our work included the design of all bathrooms, consultation on the kitchen and other architectural millwork and finishes, and the complete interior decoration—from paint colors and wallcoverings to furniture, rugs, and lighting. We also designed the outdoor furnishings, extending the interiors into the landscape and taking full advantage of the home's extraordinary setting overlooking the bay.

The result is a home that feels cohesive with its architecture while remaining warm, comfortable, and deeply connected to its surroundings. The restrained architectural language provides the framework; color, texture, and furnishings bring the personality and livability.
